From a young age, cats were a cherished part of my life and family. As I grew older, so did my love for them and my appreciation for the companionship they provide. I often dreamed of one day opening my own cattery—a place where I could care for as many cats as possible and offer them the same warmth and attention they brought into my life.
In 2023, my partner and I purchased a home with a clear vision for the future. We imagined a life in which I could eventually retire early and fulfill my long-held dream of opening a cattery—a place I would trust with my own beloved pets.
At the beginning of 2024, I took the leap. With the steadfast support of my family and friends, I overcame the many challenges and poured my heart into making this dream a reality.
Poppie’s Cattery is more than just a place for cats to stay — it’s a heartfelt tribute to the people and animals who shaped my life.
The pens are named after the animals and people who’ve influenced me along the way — those who made me the proud, self-confessed crazy cat lady I am today.
Every corner of Poppie’s Cattery is filled with love, memories, and meaning.
Poppie’s Cattery is named after my very first own cat, Poppie — a feisty Bengal and white mixed breed who truly ruled the roost. She was fiercely independent, always insisted on having one dedicated human servant at a time, and had a deep love for food — especially tuna!
One of her favourite places to sleep was curled up on my arm, even if it meant I’d wake up with a completely numb limb. She was a huge part of my life and brought so much love, laughter, and character into our home.
Poppie is deeply missed, and naming the cattery after her felt like the perfect tribute. She’s the heart behind it all — and the original queen of the cats.
Smokey and Bandit are our two beautiful black rescue cats — sisters with big personalities and even bigger hearts. They came from a rescue centre after being removed from a home with over 70 other cats, and despite everything they’ve been through, they’ve settled into a life full of love, comfort, and plenty of treats in our home.
Smokey is the braver of the two. She’s short-haired, curious, and absolutely not fussy when it comes to food — if it’s edible, she’s interested! Bandit, with her gorgeous semi-long fur, is a little more reserved and quirky, with a particular passion for removing the legs from unsuspecting spiders.
Even after four years, they can still be a bit skittish — but they’re happy, spoilt, and deeply loved. They’ve come such a long way, and it means the world to us to give them the peaceful life they truly deserve.
If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of them lounging in the catio... although they do tend to vanish the moment they know they’re being watched!
